The successor to the highly succesful Starflow ultrasonic flow logger, the 6527L is an improved smaller version of th eold favourite. Using Starlog 4 software and the built-in logger, cross-section profiles can be defined to calculate flow rate and total flow. The software also includes a diagnostics package which is extremely useful during the installation process. For customers with the 6527L who also want it to operate as an SDI-12 sensor, we have a special scheme to stop the logger and allow SDI-12 to command to trigger the measurement while the internal Scheme is running. The measurement interval is controlled by the scheme scan frequency. Some customers see this as a good backup solution, if the main, perhaps telemetered data logger stops for any reason, the Starflow QSD 6527L logger will continue logging, providing a fallback position so data is not lost. There is a large flash memory space available within the Starflow QSD. It can store perhaps years of data points in flash memory, and that memory is retained even if the power to the unit is interrupted. The new 6527L comes with a USB RS485 converter and StarlogV4 (Lite) version to create a scheme for the internal logger and to download data from the internal logger to a PC. The product was released in July 2023. The Starflow QSD 6527 manual details how to use the internal logger function. The 6527L is robust, reliable and easy to use. It is completely sealed against water ingress, requires low maintenance, low power, no calibration and there are no fussy power arrangements required. Ultrasonic Doppler Principle in Quadrature Sampling Mode is utilised to measure water velocity. The 6527 transmits ultrasonic energy through its epoxy casing into the water. Suspended sediment particles or small gas bubbles in the water reflect some of the transmitted ultrasonic energy back to the 6527’s ultrasonic receiver instrument that processes this received signal and calculates the water velocity. The 6527L Starflow QSD incorporates an ultrasonic depth sensor and an absolute pressure depth sensor. An ultrasonic depth sensor measures the water depth using the ultrasonic principle and has a range of up to 5m. An absolute (non-vented) pressure sensor measures pressure forces applied to the strain gauge. Pressure sensor reports a value equal to the sum of the water In order to compensate for the atmospheric (barometric) pressure fluctuation, the 6527L Starflow QSD should be connected to the 6515 Starflow QSD barometric reference. The absolute The 6527L’s low profile form factor minimises disturbance to the flow it’s measuring. Furthermore, the 6527 measures velocity in both directions and is suitable for use in a wide range of water qualities, from sewage to potable water, seawater too. Simply mount it on, or near the bottom of the water channel and you are ready to measure.
